A Wheelie Long Time.

Over the past few years it would appear that Britain is finally becoming more ‘environmentally responsible’. It seems to have taken a long time for us to get to this point, but things are finally beginning to change for the better.

Although, saying that, there is still an awful lot of arguing going on about things such as wheelie bins. Do we need to have a weekly collection for our waste or is a fortnightly one sufficient? There are all kinds of horror stories going around about an increase in rats and people not being able to fit rubbish into their bins. So what is the truth?

As far as I can see it, there is no reason why you should not be able to get all of your rubbish into your bins. If you are recycling correctly then there should be plenty of room for everything; and if that is the case then there will not be a problem with rats. When the only refuse is inside your wheelie bins there is nothing to attract vermin, is there?

But there are other problems with waste collection. Why is it that all of the different Councils in Britain collect and recycle different things? In some areas your glass will be taken away whilst in others it will not. Some Councils will recycle your paper as long as it is not shredded. Uh???? Is it just me, or is that completely dumb?

Other parts of Europe, such as Spain and Germany, have been successfully recycling their waste for over twenty years. Why are we not looking to them for guidance? And, more importantly, why has it taken us over twenty years to do the same?

At least we are finally heading in the right direction. I just hope that it doesn’t take another twenty years to get over these teething problems…

Final thing, I have just found a really up-to-the-minute blog on Enigin Engery Savings . It has all sorts of exciting new energy saving suggestions and campaigns, and some pretty enjoyable posts as well! Check it out!
